Under-Water Cutting Rods

Waterproof exothermic underwater cutting electrodes for wet cutting of steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metal at depth.

Underwater cutting rods — also called exothermic underwater cutting electrodes or wet cutting rods — are waterproof-coated tubular electrodes used by commercial divers and salvage crews to cut steel, cast iron, stainless steel and non-ferrous metal while fully submerged. The rod burns with oxygen fed through its core, producing a high-temperature exothermic reaction that melts and blows metal out of the kerf, so cutting continues underwater where a conventional gas torch cannot work.

Key features
  • Fully waterproof coating — stays sealed and insulated at depth
  • Exothermic tubular core cuts steel, cast iron, stainless and non-ferrous metal
  • Burns underwater and in air; no pre-heat required to start
  • Stable arc on DC straight polarity with standard diver knife-switch circuits
  • Common sizes 3/8″ x 14″ and 5/16″ x 14″; other sizes on request
  • Sealed moisture-proof cartons with batch identification
  • Fast burn rate for quick kerf progress and shorter dive time
  • Technical support on amperage, oxygen pressure and safe operating practice
